My Short List

In addition to the many links throughout the site, here's my short list.  These are sites I enjoy most.

  • The Mixon Family

    • A site dedicated to our beloved grandparents and our extended family.  It was created by my very talented cousin David.  Thank you David and I love you man!

  • Mike's Old Motorcycle
    • I traded in the 98 Virago 1100 for a 05 Road Star Warrior.  This is one hot bike.  It runs as good as it looks.  June 30, 2007 I traded the Warrior for a 07 BMW K1200GT.
  • Bike Week 2005
    • Mark, Ole, and I had a great time at Bike Week 2005.  Here's a page I created while we were on the road so family and friends could track our trip and read about our adventures in near real-time...
  • 5Nolans.com
    • Here's our latest site.  It features TONS of pictures, some short videos, and all sorts of secret stuff (password protected).  It's under development but keep checking in.  I only started it late last week.  Keep in mind that this site is hosted in my house, so if the power goes out the site will go down.  Enjoy...
  • SME wiki
    • This is software I use to host 5nolans.com.  I've used it for several years (5.6, 6.0, & now 7.3) without issues.  It will run on nearly any old PC with minimum requirements and it's FREE.  Bring life and utility back to an old PC you have laying around.
  • JAlbum - Gallery Creator
    • If you want to create photo galleries for your website, JAlbum is the tool I use for 5nolans.com.  I highly recommend this very feature rich tool and the price is right, FREE!
  • The Overthrow
    • Hawaii was originally a monarchy that was illegally overthrown by American businessmen in the late 1800's..
  • The Apology
    • Month's after the overthrow of the monarchy, the President of the US learned of the events and planned to undo this illegal overthrow.  Unfortunately he lost the next election and all hopes for a self-ruling Hawaiian people were gone.
  • Next Steps
    • The Office of Hawaiian Affairs has begun a process of registering all indigenous Hawaiians in the hopes to one day become self-governing again.
  • My DVD Profile
    • Here's a complete listing of my DVD collection.  Including a wish list of DVD's I don't have yet.  Might be a good place to go for gift ideas for Mike ;).
  • 82nd Airborne Division Association
    • The Chicago Chapter of the 82nd Airborne Division Association is the associations first chapter (since 15APR48).  If you're a former paratrooper you can join the association electronically through this site.
  • DVD Profiler
    • This is the best tool I've found for tracking my DVD collection and it's free.  Essentially you log your DVD's UPC (Universal Product Code/Barcode) in the database and all movie information and DVD statistics are automatically entered into the database (e.g. Cover Images, Cast, Features, and much more).  "This software is so good it makes you want to buy DVD's just to use it".
  • Windows Services Explained
    • Black Viper created an information packed website.  He's created several reference guides for various operating systems and other software.  He's also created a near complete Windows Services guide.  Black Viper is no longer on-line but much of his work was cached.  Please come back Black Viper!
  • Regedit
    • Be very careful with this one.  This site is a great resource for learning how to hack the registry in all Windows operating systems.  Always back up the registry before making any changes.  Mom, if you're reading this please don't go here.
  • Pocket PC Regedit
    • Much like the Regedit link above but geared toward the Pocket PC operating system.
  • My Employer
    • My company (State Farm Insurance) was ranked by Computerworld as the 50th best place to work in IT in the United States.

Buddy Sites

Here are a few sites (that I could remember the URL's to) created and managed by friends (& friends of friends) of mine.

  • Mike Nolan Insurance
    • In the event I decide to become a State Farm Agent, I went ahead and secured the domanin name: mikenolaninsurance.com.  I'm using CustomDNS to redirect to visitors to my comapnies home page.
  • Wireless Yak
    • Friend created portal for emerging wireless news, reviews, etc.  It's like Digg but dedicated to everything wireless...
  • Find My TV

    • Friend created portal for maintaining your favorite television programs.

  • Send Out Cards

    • Friend created Portal for ordering and scheduling the delivery of greeting cards.

  • Edward Smucygz

    • My cousin Edward's website.  He's an Atlanta based artist and a Professor of Fine Art at Kennesaw State University in Georgia.  This site features his work.  Update: I had to remove the link.  Eddie's site appears to have been hijacked and was generating an enormous amount of pop-ups...

  • B. Smucygz

    • My cousin Barb's website.  She's a Edward's sister and a very talented artist / photographer.  This site is dedicated to her photographs.

  • Petersen Motors Body Shop

    • Derrick not only fabricates awesome hot rods, he also does body work and paint on motorcycles.  A few weeks ago I was thrown off my Beemer in the Ozarks and Derrick worked his magic and made her new again.  If you need body or paint work on your vehicle, I highly recommend calling Derrick first.  Thanks Derrick!!!

  • Typic@l.org

    • My very good friend Byron's home page.  Byron's one of the best and brightest security analysts I know.  Byron's responsible for getting me into the whole website creation hobby.  I've learned volumes from Byron and I'm going to miss him.  Good luck in your new career and with the family addition!

  • Steve's Apartment

    • Pretty cool site from one of my friend Byron's college buddies from Calvin College in Michigan.

  • Augustine Central

    • Matt is a networking genius and used to run our ECS research Lab.  Matt has several websites dedicated to his family and the many fantasy sports leagues he manages.

  • Gary Huber

    • Gary used to work with us on the Wireless Development team.  Gary retired from State Farm a few years ago.  Gary is also a retired Army Command Sergeant Major.

  • Backyard Tire Fire

    • A local band in Normal, IL who happen to be friends of mine.  Ed, Matt, and Tim are very talented and very grounded.  Check out their site and catch a show.  You won't be disappointed...

  • Gina's BMW Motorcycles

    • I bought the 07 K1200GT from Gina in Iowa City, IA.  Gina gave me a great deal and she has an awesome dealership.  The folks there are very helpful and friendly.

  • Performance Plus Cycles

    • While in Memphis on business I needed new tires for my bike.  With little notice, Marvin and company came through with the latest Sport Touring tires from Michelin within two hours I was on the road with new shoes....  Although they sell Suzuki, Yamaha, and a variety of 4-wheelers, they are the only BMW dealer in Memphis.
