Mini Bio's for Mike & Kim:Kim and I were high school sweethearts at Sandalwood HS in Jacksonville, FL (Go Saints!). We started dating in June 1986 (I was a senior and she was a sophomore). In August 1986, I left for the US Army. We maintained a 2 year long distance relationship, seeing each other on holidays and when I could get away from base and back to Florida. Kim graduated in June 1988 and we eloped in July 1988. We spent our first year of marriage at Fort Bragg, NC. I was honorably discharged from the Army in August 1989 and we moved back to Jacksonville. We started our careers and in 1992 we had our first child, Kyle. We continued to work hard and raise Kyle and in time decided to have another child. In 1998, Jacob was born. About the same time Jacob came into our lives, I was promoted and relocated to Bloomington, IL. Two years later in 2000, Jessica was born. We've been happily married for 20 years with three kids, a cat, a hermit crab, and a dwarf hamster. We've included mini biographies for Kim and myself below. Mike Nolan I was born in Jacksonville, FL in 1968 to Mike Nolan Sr. & Sandra Lee. I attended Arlington Heights Elementary School for grades 1-5, Christ the King Catholic for grades 6-7, St. Paul's Catholic for 8th grade, Fletcher Jr. & Sr. High for grades 9-11, and Sandalwood High School for part of 11th and 12th. I graduated high school in 1986 and joined the Army. During my first year in the Army I was stationed at the following bases: Ft. Bliss in El Paso, TX (Boot Camp), Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX (AIT - Medical Specialist), and Ft. Benning in Columbus, GA (Jump School). I successfully completed my training in 1987 and was stationed at Ft. Bragg in Fayetteville, NC. I served proudly with the 82nd Airborne Division as a paratrooper and combat medic (Delta Company Animals, 307th Med Bn). I was honorably discharged in August 1989. Kim and I moved back to Jacksonville, FL and I was hired by State Farm Insurance. While working at the farm a friend talked me into joining the Army Reserves. I joined the former 449th MP Company and traded in my stethoscope for a nightstick and became a 95-Bravo, Military Police Officer. I spent the first year in training (1 weekend a month & a 2-week Summer drill). While completing my MP certification, Desert Shield hit. Our unit was activated but I lucked out and got to stay in J-ville to guard ammunition and helicopters at the shipyards. I was lucky, most of my unit was sent to Saudi Arabia to guard POW's. I was honorably discharged a year or two later... I also spent a few years on many of FCCJ's campuses working on an AA and AS's in Criminal Justice, Emergency Medicine, and Fire Science (on the GI Bill and Army College Fund). I ran out of money and time before I figured out what I wanted to be when I grow up (and I still don't know). Through the various programs, I completed the Fire Academy and was Florida State Certified as a Fire Fighter. I was state certified as an EMT and completed a solid year of the Paramedic program prior to departing for Illinois. I met a bunch of GREAT people (students and instructors) in the Fire Academy and Paramedic program and I hope everyone is safe and happy! I started my career at State Farm (Ranked by Computerworld as the 50th best place to work in IT, previously ranked #2) in 1989, in the former Southeastern Regional Office. I worked in various units within Administrative Services for 9 years. My last three years in the Regional Office were spent in the Telecommunications department. In 1998, I accepted an opportunity to relocate to State Farm Corporate Headquarters in Bloomington, IL. I spent the first 8 years working on the Wireless Development Team, researching, evaluating, and implementing wireless voice and data technologies for State Farm. I then spent a year and a half on the Telecommunications Architecture Team, where they have responsibility for setting technology direction for voice, video, and data networking. Today I'm working on "special projects" and split time between our Wireless team and Wide Area Network team. Same stuff, different desk... Kim Nolan was born in Bluefield, WV to Marlene Hawthorne and Bill Hawthorne. In Bluefield, Kim attended Westminster Pre-School for Kindergarten and Whitethorn Elementary for grades 1-5. Kim moved with her parents from Bluefield to Jacksonville, FL in 1980. In Jacksonville, Kim attended Arlington Country Day School for 6th grade and attended Sandalwood Jr./Sr. High School for grades 7-12. Kim graduated high school in 1988 and we eloped and were married. Kim then relocated to Ft. Bragg, NC to be with me. While in North Carolina, Kim worked for a local car wash and local sporting goods store. While in North Carolina Kim got us evicted from a trailer park in Raeford, NC for playing the stereo too loud and hosting a "drinking" party (those damned Southern Baptists). I was discharged from the Army in 1989, so we moved back to Jacksonville. Once home, Kim attended Florida Community College at Jacksonville where she received an Associate in Arts degree. While in school, Kim worked for Sport's Unlimited in sales (I miss that employee discount!). In 1990, Kim began her career with AT&T Universal Card Services in the Chargeback department. Within a few years Kim was promoted and moved to the Education & Development department. In 1998, AT&T was purchased by Citicorp and Kim resigned to move to Bloomington with me. Once in Bloomington, Kim took care of our two boys during the day and worked nights, part-time at the front desk of the Hampton Inn. Later, Kim and I decided to try the Catholic version of birth control and were blessed with Jessica. While raising our children and taking care of our household, Kim took a home course in Medical Transcription and was certified. Kim worked a few years from home as a Medical Transcriptionist. Kim now works from home as a busy mother of three and watches grade school kids before and after-school. Although Kim is a very busy CEO of 5Nolans she's also very generous with her time. Kim finds time to: create the Washington School Directory every year, she's a CCD teacher at St. Mary's Catholic, she's a Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary's, she's the team mom for the McClean County Cougars, and active with the BHS boosters and I'm sure I forgot several others. Kim is a great mother and a wonderful wife. She is a truly a super woman (and a real hottie too!). |
